Graphic Design

Hi. I’m Amanda and I don’t just take photos.

When I was in elementary school I wanted to be a dolphin dentist, my teacher told me I was dumb. In high school, I wanted to be an actual dentist. I went to Blue Ridge Community College with my heart set on being a dental hygienist. Second semester of college, I decided I didn’t want to work in people’s dirty mouths my whole life… Yes, it took me that long to realize this career path wasn’t for me. I then drastically switched to the arts. I began my journey to become a graphic designer. I finished up my associates and then transferred to JMU, Go DUKES! I received a Bachelor’s degree and landed my first job at Wintergreen Resort. I have now been employed at Wintergreen since July of 2017.

In the past year I have gotten to create logos, redesign menus, design collateral for many events, create social media advertisements, and so much more! My job isn’t a “normal” 9-5. For eight hours a day I get to be creative, how cool? Of course, no job is perfect, every day isn’t a magical land with unlimited fonts and pretty pictures. I have to respond to emails, make phone calls, and do paperwork. Ew.

My love for photography really started in my first year at JMU. I took a darkroom photography class my first semester and I absolutely LOVED it. I was able to incorporate my photos into a lot of my design work as well. I have been shooting for about 4 years now and hopefully many more. I love it! I love being creative in all aspects of life. My job, as a designer and a photographer, is to create. The goal is to create something that people relate or respond to, hopefully in a good way.

My life, my journey, is just beginning and I couldn’t be more thankful. I am truly blessed. I have a healthy, handsome son, a beautiful home, a wonderful support system of friends and family, two jobs, that I love, and a sweet and caring fiance. I can say at 24 years old, I am right where I want to be.

Thank you for reading! Enjoy some of the design work I have done in the past year. <3
